The 150th Anniversary of Morgan's Raid

The tour recognizing this event was held on June 8th, 2013. It included a bus tour to Stoney Ridge and Jasper and a special reception following the tour was held at the Piketon Jasper Methodist Church in Piketon. See some pictures.

In Search of the Largest Sycamore Tree in Pike County!

The Pike Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is looking for the largest Sycamore tree in Pike County. This is part of the state's Big Tree Program.

Canal Boat

The Ohio-Erie Canal Historic Trail

Welcome to the Ohio and Erie Canal Historic Trail. The Trail, beginning at Bristol Park, off of Rt. 335 East in Waverly, is designed to be a self-guided tour with emphasis on the history of the Canal and its importance to the development of commerce in Ohio during the 19th century.

The first part of the Trail is gravel. Visitors using wheelchairs or walkers may find it easier to turn right off of Rt. 335 into the group pick-up lot, park there and take the trail in reverse, ending at the Canal Boat site.

A Canal Explorer Certificate and a store discount coupon is available to everyone finishing the trail. Certificates may be picked up at the Pike County Convention and Visitors Bureau at 126 W. Second Street in Waverly, phone number 740-947-9650.

The trail is a joint venture of Bristol Village, the Pike County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Pike County Rotary Club and the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Waverly. Major Donors are: First National Bank of Waverly, USEC, Inc., Appalachian Regional Commission.

Welcome to Pike County, Ohio

The Ohio-Erie Canal, the Civil War, the Great Depression, and the Atomic Age have all left marks on Pike County. A scenic afternoon drive can take visitors past historic sites ranging from the Governor Lucas Mansion, to the 1797 Eager Inn, to Ohio's "Most Perfect Tree". In season recreational activities include hiking, boating and swimming at Lake White and Pike Lake State Parks, golfing on championship courses, and great hunting and fishing areas.
